KARACHI: Customs Appraisement has detected gross misuse of concessionary SRO 1125(I)/2011 and created demand of Rs 10 million on the import of ‘Triethanolamine’.
A meeting was held at the Appraisement Collectorate to review the revenue leakages and the officials were directed to conduct post-release verification.
On the directives of the collectorate the officials identified that some importers were taking undue benefit of SRO 1125 on the import of ‘Triethanolamine’, which was being released as dyes intermediate under the exemption.
Triethanolamine is used as an emulsifier and surfactant classifiable under heading 2922.1310 customs duty at 5.0 percent and sales tax at 1 percent and additional sales tax at 3 percent.
Collector Najeeb Abbasi had advised all Principal Appraiser to conduct post release verification (PRV) of their Groups. After which Principal Appraiser Javed Akhtar had detected the case and it is due to his efforts that the import of the above mentioned substance is being streamlined and legitimate revenue is being secured.
